FLORIDA POPULATION UP TO 19.89 MILLION
Florida Population Statistics
The Florida population is now at 19.89 million and the state has become the third largest state in the country with Californa and Texas as number one and number two. New York State is now just behind Florida with a population of 19.7 million people living there. The gap difference in people between the two states should grow wider as New Yorker’s continue to move here. Some call it the two point turn around. Take one from New York and add one to Florida side of the equation. In reality more people move from New York to Florida than anywhere else. I’m surprised that New York has not figured out how to tax this yet, they tax just about everything else. That is another great reason why people move here, lower tax rates.
The increase in the Florida population numbers translates to more funds from Washington D.C. and 2 additional seats in the House of Representatives. It will take a while to get those seats since Florida has to wait for the new census report in six years.
Also Florida’s recovery after the economic meltdown moved at a faster pace than the national economy did. There are more job and business opportunities for people coming here and finding work, whereas four years ago when the migration to our state ground to zero there where no jobs available.
Both the stock market and the real estate market also helped. The improvement in the sock and bond market restored some of the wealth and retirement savings to the baby boomers interested in retiring here. Also the real estate recovery allowed home owners once again to be able to sell their homes and move to Florida.
Over the past year Florida has added a whopping 800 people a day. The state needs to be careful and not let it become too expensive, too congested, or too dangerous to live in. The growth needs to be managed well and not turn it into a place where everyone starts leaving and no one wants to move here.
